Techiman (B/A) July 26, GNA - Master Evans Kusi of Sunyani District won the Brong Ahafo Regional Basic Schools boys marathon race covering 14 Kilometres at Techiman.
The athletes were made up of 120 runners made up of 60 boys and 60 girls in each category of the competition
Master Kwabena Effah of Nkoranza District came second with Master Asiedu Busi of Kintampo District placing third.
Master Agyemang Prempeh from the Techiman District was fourth, followed by Master Emmanuel Peprah of Dormaa District at the fifth position while Master Yeboah Francis of Berekum District and Master Kwame Nsiah of Tano District followed in that order. Miss Ruth Ampoma of Kintampo District placed first in the girls division of the race with Miss Augustine Owusuaa of Tano District taking the second position, Miss Mabel Twumasi of Dormaa District came third followed by Miss Safia Seidu of Kintampo District at the fourth position and Kumbatizie Amma from Nkoranza District placing fifth. Miss Roda Kundelik of Nkoranza and Miss Eva Amankwaa of Kintampo won the sixth and seventh positions respectively.
Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Acting Techiman Municipal Director of Education, who is also the substantive Nkoranza District Director of Education, graced the occasion.
Mr Ibrahim Bukari Baba, Managing Director of IBBECO Electrical Company Limited in Techiman presented three 'walkman tape' recorders, packets of batteries, 10 tooth brushes and 400,000 cedis, valued at 700,000 cedis to the outstanding competitors.
He commended the competitors for their splendid performance and advised them to train well to win medals at the National Festival, scheduled to take place in Accra on September 24 this year. Mr. Agyemang-Badu on behalf of his colleague Directors o Education expressed gratitude to Mr. Baba for the donation and his foresight in assisting the schools in their preparations towards the competition. He commended the District Organizers for preparing their teams for the competition and also ensuring that they comported themselves during the festival.
The acting Director presented two exercise books to each of the competitors from Techiman and Nkoranza.
The Assistant Regional Sports Organizer, Mr. Edwards Nsiah announced that the first best 10 boys and 10 girls would be camped in Sunyani for further training towards the National Milo Marathon.
