Five Records Fall In Ashanti Region

This year?s Ashanti Regional School Super Zonal Athletics Competition was packed with action.

The event, which ended in Kumasi last Friday, saw the young athletes smashing five records in the girls? discuss, 400 metres, and 100 metres as well as in the boys? pole vault and high jump.

Patience Ocloo of Ghana National Academy set the new record in the girls? 400 metres with a time of 56.5 seconds, while Abigail Amoah Adusei of Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School also set the record in the girls? 100 metres with a time of 16.5 seconds.

Master Daniel Akrofi of Prempeh College received a certificate as the overall best athlete for his credible performance in both field and track events.

Opoku Ware Secondary School emerged first with 134 points in the boys division while St Monica?s Secondary School in Mampong scored 97 points to place first in the girls division.

In all, 17 schools took part in the boys? competition while 16 took part in the girls? competition.

\In the boys? division, Prempeh College came second with 126 points, followed by Tepa Secondary in the third position with 39 points while Kumasi High came fourth with 37.5 points.

Aduman Secondary won the fifth position with 31 points, with Ghana National Academy and Simms Secondary Commercial taking the sixth and seventh positions with 26 points and 25 points respectively.

Asanteman Secondary, T.I Ahmadiyya in Kumasi, and Toase Secondary schools tied at the eighth position with 24 points. Garden City Commercial and Nkawie Secondary also tied at the ninth position with 22 points with Obuasi Secondary Technical taking the 10th position with 15 points.

Yaa Asantewaa Girls came third with 83 points while Kumasi Girls came fourth with 65 points.

Nkawei secondary secured the fifth position with 58 points while Ghana National Academy scored 43 points to take the sixth position with Tepa secondary coming seventh with 26 points.
