Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association, Prof. Francis Dodoo Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association, Prof. Francis Dodoo

Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association, Prof. Francis Dodoo has revealed his Association’s preparations for the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro could be thrown into jeopardy due the unavailability of funding.

Three athletes- 800m runner Alex Amankwah and 100m sprinter Sean Safo-Antwi and 100m sprinter Flings Owusu-Agyapong have officially qualified for the games.

Some more athletes could qualify for the games by the end of June but the Association’s preparations for the world’s biggest sports event could be stifled by the lack of funds.

‘What you have to understand is that you have to invest in anything if you want to reap from it. Whether it’s a farm, business, family, relationship or athletics.’

‘The biggest bottleneck we’ve had is that in the last 3years we haven’t had any funding from the ministry of sports or the national sports authority. There’s been absolute no funding.’

‘ We got GH C 10,000 last year to prepare 25 athletes for the all Africa games but GH C 10,000 is all we had and that’s nothing’he told Takoradi based Empire FM.
