31-year-old, Gifty Koomson of Ghana Prisons Service won the Central Regional Millennium Marathon female category with ease after she led home a bunch of security personnel and students in the exciting race which ended at the Robert Mensah Stadium.

Agnes Efua Eduah, 23, also of the Prisons Service, placed second as 28-year-old Atsuifui Agbayi of the Ghana Police got the third prize.

In the male race, Simon Ayitey Teiye won the race followed by Ishmael Arthur and John Boateng.

Simon, 28, who is a construction worker with CMS, said he has the talent to run and hope to win the International Millennium Marathon in Accra on Saturday, September 5.

He therefore vowed to shock fans after the experience of placing 4th in the Accra International Marathon and 20th in the 42 km Milo Marathon.

He praised his trainer, Adukpo, for shaping and encouraging him to win his first marathon.

The exciting Central Region Millennium Marathon was graced by the presence of the Regional Minister, Hon. Acquinas Quansah, popularly known as Shatta who promised to cater for 600 representatives to run for the region at the international race in Accra.

Hon. Quansah also commended the organisers of the event and promised to support the event which will be held annually.

He urged the students in the region to combine sports with education and they will be productive citizens in future.

Aside a few keep fit clubs, the event attracted students from Mfanstipim, Adisadel, St. Augustines, Aggrey Memorial, Ghana National College and others from Junior High Schools.

Managing Partner of the Millennium Marathon, Ambassador Ashim Morton, commended the students who woke up on time to participate in the marathon and advised them to take their education seriously, while doing sports to keep them fit and healthy.

Chief Organiser, Nana Mankatta II, and fitness trainer, Boakye, led the participants in an aerobics exercise which all the dignitaries and media present took part to stretch their limbs and dance to favourite songs like “Telemo” by popular international artiste, Gasmilla who will be one of the crowd pullers on September 5, at the spacious Independence Square.
