Legon Hall wins Inter-Hall Athletics competition

Accra, March 3, GNA - Legon Hall scored 112 points to win the 43rd Annual University of Ghana Inter-Halls Athletics Competition which ended at Legon, Accra on Friday.

Commonwealth Hall came second with 98 points followed by Akuafo Hall at the third position with 80 points while Mensah Sarbah Hall placed fourth with 77 points.

In the Women's category, Mensah Sarbah and Volta Halls tied at the first position with 98 points each, Akuafo Hall was second with 83 points while Legon Hall took the third position with 57 points. Eugene Asante of Akuafo Hall was adjudged the Best Male Athlete while the Best Female Athlete award went to Lilian Kyei of Volta Hall. The two-day event was jointly sponsored by The Trust Bank and Primex Ghana Limited. Professor Kwesi Yankah, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, commended the participants for their show of sportsmanship and discvipline throughout the event.

He said the event was significant because it was taking place at a time when the country is celebrating her 50th Anniversary. Prof. Yankah therefore called on all citizens of the country within and outside to actively take part in the celebrations since the occasion would go a long in offering unity and fellow feeling amongst all.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor announced that the next Inter-Halls competition would take place at the University's new stadium which is expected to be completed by December this year. Mr Kasser Tee, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager of The Trust Bank urged the participants to take active interest in sports so that they would remain healthy at all times.
