University of Ghana targets 40 medals at 2020 GUSA Games

The University of Ghana Athletics team have been set the formidable task of winning at least forty medals at the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games.

The school won a total of 36 medals, 20 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals in this year’s edition but have now set their sights on an incredible forty medal haul in next year’s competition.

This was disclosed by the Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu at the media launch of the 2020 GUSA games.

“GUSA is coming back home and we want it to be a national story and a national event. The event was to explain to people we are ready for the competition and everything is set for the tournament. We should have between forty and sixty medal but for goal at least 30 medals”.

The launch of the 2020 GUSA Games saw the unveiling of the logo, mascot and theme song for the competition.

January 3 to January 19 2020 has been proposed as the period for the tournament which will be hosted by the University of Ghana.

Prof Samuel Kwame Offei, Chairperson of LOC &Pro VC, ASA indicated the readiness of the University to host the competition which will have eight other universities competing with UG for honours.

He noted that the university will need the support of Government, media and the public to stage a ‘memorable’ tournament.

“We humbly send our appeal to the government representative here to make this argument on our behalf. We are appealing to everyone for your maximum support to make the 2020 GUSA Games a memorable one”, he said.

Dr Bello assured that facilities and structures needed to deliver a hitch-free competition would be ready before the start of the tournament.

He disclosed that the Diaspora Halls-Kwapong and Limamn Halls would serve as as Game’s Village.
