Ghana's female sprinter and AAG silver medalist, Flings Owusu-Agyapong, has blamed the weather in South Africa as a major factor of Team Ghana’s failure to gain more qualifications to the Rio Olympic Games.
Team Ghana arrived in the country on Tuesday after winning six medals at the just ended African Championship in Durban and placed 6th in the overall medal table, having won a gold medal, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
This means Ghana is likely to just present three athletes to Rio but Agyapong blames the cold temperatures during the events.
“It was pretty cold [because] we were to go in the morning and evening and these were the coldest times. I think our performances will have been better if it had been a little warmer but all the same for other athletes”, he told Starr Sports.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Athletics Association will be organizing another championship in Cape Coast with the hope to increase the number for Rio.
