Government to develop Songor Lagoon into modern salt industry

Government is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop the Songor Lagoon into a modern salt industry.

The lagoon has the potential of producing salt in large quantities thereby creating jobs with Ada and its environs.

President Akufo-Addo announced this when he joined the people of Ada to celebrate this year's Asafotufiam festival.

He said 36 factories are at the various stages of completion under the one district one factory policy.

The Asafotufiami Festival of the people of Ada Traditional area in the Dangme East District is a rich cultural heritage celebrated annually in the first week of August.

The festival is a remembrance of the achievements in the wars for settlement fought by their ancestors, hence the name “ASAFOTUFIAMI”.

“ASAFOTU”, as the name implies, is company firing of musketry.

It was a colourful ceremony at the Ada park as Ghana's rich culture was on display.

Hundreds of people from Ada, other parts of the country attended the festival.

Chiefs representing various traditional areas of Ada adorned in their traditional regalia, showcased their rich culture amid drumming, dancing, singing and firing of musketry.

The President called for unity among the chiefs and people to promote development. One major commercial activity in the area is the mining of salt.

There have been various appeals to develop the industry into a modern industry.

President Akufo-Addo assured them that government will develop the Songor lagoon into a modern salt industry.

Paramount chief of Ada, Nene Ada Djetse Abram Kabu Akuaku called on government to develop and absorb the Songor lagoon into the one district one factory initiative.
