The Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics, Musa Dankwah, has stated that the outgoing Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, was practically slaughtered by her main contender in the 2024 election.
Describing her defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, John Dumelo, as unsurprising, Musa Dankwah said it was apparent the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament was going to fail in her re-election bid.
“Anybody who knows numbers should know that that woman was gone the day after she won the elections in 2020,” the pollster stated.
He noted that Lydia Alhassan’s victory in the 2020 parliamentary election was largely due to the absence of students on the campus of the University of Ghana, who had then been dismissed to go home due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.
“She won because the last time the campus was shut, there was COVID and there was no student population to support Dumelo. Now that they are there, she was slaughtered,” he stated in an interview on Channel One Television.
John Dumelo, who suffered defeat to Lydia Alhassan in 2020, staged a comeback in the December 7, 2024, elections, where he polled 47,560 votes against Lydia Alhassan, who secured 39,214 votes.
