A mammoth health walk to improve the wellbeing of the people has been held in Kumasi, as part of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the reign of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.

The programme dubbed, "Asanteman Health Walk", brought together residents including health professionals, traditional authorities, technocrats and politicians, as well as civil society organizations.

The enthusiastic crowd embarked on a procession through some principal streets of the metropolis, creating the needed awareness on the essence for the adoption of healthy lifestyles amongst the people.

The programme, organized under the auspices of the Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asantehene, coincided with a free health-screening exercise.

A team of medical personnel from the Summerfield Medical Center, a private health facility, was on hand to provide healthcare services to the people relating to blood pressure, ear, nose and throat, dental and eye care.

Baffour Kotei Kutin Sraman II, chief of Breman in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region, said the longevity of mankind to a large extent, depended on how one lived his or her life.

For this reason, he said, it was appropriate that Ghanaians succumbed to healthy lifestyles at all time in order to stay fit.

Mr. Osei Owusu Amankwaa, the Chief Executive Officer of Summerfield Medical Center, said about 1, 500 people had been targeted for the screening.
