Any form of kidney disorder is serious because it affects the kidney's function of cleaning one’s blood, which ensures that other organs of the body get the required nutrients to function properly.

Having a defective kidney means that one cannot live life as normal and lacks the energy to do many things, including work.

In this episode of #SayItLoud, GhanaWeb’s Ishmael Batoma speaks to a renal patient at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Michael Asante, about his life before his kidneys started failing and his life after that.

Michael shares the story of how he had to give up his dream of becoming a lawyer right after taking the Ghana Law School Entrance Examination and being scheduled for an interview.

He also shares his daily struggles as a person living with failed kidneys, and how he is unable to get a new kidney despite his brother volunteering to donate one of his.
