2020 Elections: We’ll resist any Akufo-Addo internal opponent - Nana Boakye

The National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Henry Nana Boakye fondly referred to as Nana B by many has revealed that the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the obvious choice for the 2020 elections.

He made this revelation on the sidelines of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Congress for the Youth and Women organizer positions at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, vowing to resist anyone who may try to contest the president at the primary.

“Whether they (delegates) like it or not Nana Addo will contest unopposed”, he revealed.

He was at the NDC congress to give solidarity message when he was accosted by Fred Duhoe of MyNewsGh.com.

“I urge the NDC youth organizers to elect competent leaders that will keep them in opposition for some time. They should forget the 2020 elections because they are wobbling already in opposition” he added.

He said his observation and appreciation of the process at the Congress is that of a peaceful and democratic one.

The debate about whether Akufo-Addo will seek reelection surfaced after the president told Journalists at the Jubilee House last year that he may not be on the ballot in 2020.

The President had been commenting on threats by a group of illegal miners that they will vote him out in the next election because of his unwavering campaign against destructive illegal mining activities.

Akufo-Addo said the illegal miners need not worry because he may not even be on the ballot in the next election.

“I’ve been told there are young men who have said they voted for me and if I continue down this way they can be sure that they will not vote for me again in 2020.

“Well, the 2020 vote; it’s not clear if Akufo-Addo’s name will be on the ballot in the first place and even if his name is on the ballot, this is not going to be the reason why I’ll stop, I’m going to continue,” the President had said.
