Asawase can never be an NPP seat – Muntaka

The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka has stated categorically that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) can never wrestle the seat from him during December polls.

According to him, no matter how hard they fight there is no way the NPP can unseat him from a constituency he has developed over the years as a legislator.

The Presidential nominee of NPP Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo on Wednesday at Aboabo during day-one of his five-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region called on the electorate to vote for the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate Alhaji Alidu Seidu to win the seat.

But speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, Muntaka said NPP members are only tickling themselves into believing that they can win the seat which is overly far from their reach.

The Legislator told the NPP not to be deceived by the massive crowd that greeted them when Nana Addo visited the constituency.

‘In as much as Bantama constituency can never be NDC, so does Asawase constituency. Asawase can never be NPP, the days of seat swing are gone, so they should stop tickling themselves of wining the seat,‘ he said.

He said his constituents will vote for him based on his good works and that he is counted among three most important legislators in NDC, indicating developmental projects executed by him tend to expose NPP.

Alhaji Muntaka said though NPP members will go on daily door-door campaigns or rallies in the area, their efforts will be in vain.

‘I am not surprised, anytime Nana Addo goes to Kumasi, he visits my constituency out of the eleven constituencies in the metropolis. They have targeted my constituency because of the developmental transformation, which has been going on over the years which are over exposing NPP. They are scared of my developments. Their lenses are always on my constituency, but I can assure them, (Insha Allah) by God’s grace I shall win. All NPP supporters can go to door to door, house to house, from rallies to rallies in the constituency but their efforts will never materialised,’ he stated.

The Majority Chief Whip debunked assertion that he has been taking his constituents for granted.

He lashed out at the NPP for failing to develop the constituency within its 8-year rule under former President John Agyekum Kufour, saying they only exhibited complacency.

He said he will not be distracted by the NPP and that he will continue to develop the constituency, adding that his performance has improved dramatically over the years.
