The Paramount Chief of Asogli State, Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct the 2024 general election accurately.

He made this statement at his palace on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, during a visit from the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, as part of Mahama's 3-day campaign tour of the Volta Region.

Togbe Afede also addressed issues such as corruption, the politicization of public institutions, and the state of the country's economy.

He emphasized the importance of the Electoral Commission ensuring a free and fair election to maintain the peace that Ghanaians have enjoyed for years.

"And I want to ask that the Electoral Commission commit itself to doing its best for our country to ensure that we have a free and fair election so that the peace that has defined us as Ghanaians over the years and our enviable peaceful environment can be sustained into the future because that is very important for our development," Togbe Afede said.

He encouraged all presidential aspirants to prioritize truthfulness and to be inclusive presidents for all citizens, not just specific factions.

In response, John Dramani Mahama highlighted the NDC's history of contributing to Ghana's development more than any other political party.

He pledged to continue this legacy if given the opportunity in the December polls, emphasizing a focus on long-term investments for the country's future rather than immediate gains .
