The 2024 election campaign season has brought to the limelight some figures whose activities have led to an astronomical rise in their popularity among the Ghanaian public.

These individuals, who were either in mainstream politics or out of the political spotlight ahead of the election, have now become household names and have increased their political brand and following due to their activeness within the season.

Miracles Aboagye

With a political career spanning back to the Akuapem North Constituency, Dennis Miracles Aboagye was already a national political figure before the 2024 campaign season. He rose through the ranks to attain the position of a presidential staffer, responsible for Local Government and Decentralization, with additional responsibility as the Executive Secretary for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization.

His popularity has soared further following his appointment as Spokesperson for the campaign of the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. From debating political opponents to engaging the media on behalf of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, Miracles Aboagye has made himself a favorite among NPP members.

Malik Basintale

Currently one of the biggest firebrands of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Malik Basintale is one of the popular figures to have emerged in the 2024 political campaign season. His activeness as the Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC has been felt across the country, having traversed the length and breadth of Ghana to sell his party’s presidential and parliamentary candidates. Whether it is him riding a motorbike with his party folks or engaging in heated media debates, Malik Basintale has marketed himself as one of the biggest names in the current campaign season, earning him praise from the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, who refers to him as the ‘Basintale Boy’.

He has been a fast-rising personality in Ghana’s politics, having started from the grassroots and being elected the youngest regional executive of the NDC in the Northern Region when he was elected the party’s deputy communications officer for the region.

Kofi Atta Mills

Being the only surviving son of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, Ghanaian political watchers had been on the lookout for Sam Kofi Atta Mills, who had stayed away from the limelight until the recent campaign season. Kofi Atta Mills has been an active member of the NDC’s campaign for the 2024 season. He has been sighted at various campaign events and has also been leading several campaign initiatives to canvass for votes.

In an interview in October this year, Sam gave details of his relationship with former President Mahama, who was his father’s vice, and how the Mahamas had been very supportive of him following the death of his father in July 2012.

Sharaf Mahama

Known for his interest in sports, Sharaf Mahama launched himself into the political spotlight in the 2024 season, making him the first and only son of former President Mahama to be engaged in active politics. He has been traveling across the country engaging in campaign activities in support of his father and NDC parliamentary candidates.

Sharaf’s entry into mainstream politics has led to speculations about his political future and possible role in a future John Mahama government, while some critics believe his entry is a continuation of his family’s history in politics.

Kwesi Botchway Jnr

Kwesi Botchway is a member of the NPP communication team who has been engaging in media discussions on the party’s policies and the performance of the government in the last seven years.

The young private legal practitioner is also a popular figure on social media and leads the party’s advocacy on various social media platforms.
