Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region are furious over the party's decision to withdraw Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as the party's parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

The members held a protest in the constituency on Friday, June 28, 2024, over the party's decision to withdraw Shiabu Migyimah's candidature and suspend him from the NDC.

One of the women leading the protest, who indicated she was a branch chairman of the party in the constituency, threatened that they are going to vote against the party if the decision of the party is not reversed.

She stated that if the party is not going to rescind its decision, it should refund all the money Shiabu Migyimah has spent on his campaign to become the party's parliamentary candidate (PC) since 2018.

"I'm a branch chairman of the party. There is no one who can tell us, the branches, that they are changing our parliamentary candidate (PC). The only person we know as our PC is Nurein Shiabu Migyimah.

"If they want to change him, they should give him back all the money he has spent since 2018 with interest so that we can go independent," she said in Twi.

The NDC branch chairman threatened that if their demands are not met, they are going to turn against the party and its presidential candidate for the pending December 2024 election, former President John Dramani Mahama.

"If they fail to do this, even if John Mahama comes here, no one would turn up for him, and we are going to boo him and send him packing, in addition," she said.

After her remarks, the crowd started chanting; "No Migyimah, no Mahama. No Migyimah, no Mahama".

Background:

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has withdrawn Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as its Assin Central parliamentary candidate due to immoral acts and anti-party activities.

Complaints were filed against Migyimah, leading the NDC's Central Regional Functional Executive Committee (R-FEC) to conduct thorough investigations. After deliberations, the committee decided to immediately withdraw Migyimah's candidacy.

In a letter to the Assin Central chairman of the NDC, the Regional Functional Executive Committee also announced a six-month suspension for Migyimah pending further investigation by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

Migyimah has been suspended for allegedly having sexual intercourse with the constituency secretary's wife and has subsequently relocated her to Kasoa, where he has rented a room for her.

However, reacting to the news in an interview with Joy News, monitored by GhanaWeb, the suspended Parliamentary Candidate told his followers to remain calm.

Describing recent happenings as a nightmare, Shaibu Migyimah added that he believes that he will be vindicated soon after going through the right structures for a fair hearing.

"I have not received any letter, but I am also putting measures in place by going through the party's structures to get a fair hearing with regards to whatever is going on. It's kind of like a nightmare, but this is a political party, and we are being governed by our party constitution. I am young, and I will fight my way through.

"I believe and I know whatever allegation, anything they've said or whatever it is, after I go through the right party structures, I'll be vindicated. God being so good, God willing, 'Inshallah', on December 7, I'm going to win the election," he said.
