National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) George Opare Addo has posited that men of God and owners of schools, especially private schools, are envious of other businesses that are being allowed to operate in the wake of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

He said “churches have difficulty in understanding the government on why they should not go but businesses have opened”.

The NDC Youth Organizer was commenting on the directives by the President to extend the ban on social gathering, church activities and schools till the end of May, 2020.

This was made known in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 9th televised update on Sunday, May 10.

“The pastor goes to town and they see businesses in operation. There is an erroneous impression that is why private schools and churches are calling for opening of their churches and schools.”

He added that “they have mistaken impression and it’s because we did not manage the opening of the lockdown well”.

“If we say government has failed it is true. The moment the lockdown was lifted, the psychology of the people was that the virus is gone. It should not have been lifted because all stakeholders were against lifting of the lockdown.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Kpone Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Hopeson Adorye, was of the view that “we should thank our God that Akufo-Addo is the President today”.

“If it were to be Mahama, we should have been dead by now.”
