Ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’ Regional Executives elections, the writing continues to appear on the wall that incumbent Greater Accra regional Chairman, Joseph Kobina Ade Coker, will be retained.
The latest in a streak of good omens is the commitment that some executives who were recently added to the list of delegates made to ensure that the incumbent Chairman was re-elected.
At a meeting held in Tema with eight new additional executives, Chairman Ade Coker was told that his victory in the upcoming election was a foregone conclusion even as he was celebrated with songs by the executives.
“We the eight additional executives feel we owe our Chairman a lot of thanks for creating room and adding us. We will show our gratitude properly when the time comes because Ade Coker is the best and that is why earlier speakers hailed him for his good works, nobody asked him a single question”. Mr Kweku Baako, Tema West Constituency Executive member said.
Along with Mr. Annan and the eight additional executives, Co-opted members also praised Mr. Ade Coker for the policy which they said had elevated their status in the party.
The meeting which was held at T-Havannah in Tema was a virtual concert of praises for Ade Coker, so much so that the Chairman was almost prevented from addressing the delegates.
Addressing them, Mr Coker said the regional executives election will just be a stepping stone towards the real battle of wresting power from the ruling New Patriotic Party in 2020.
He called for commitment and dedication from the members to ensure that the mistakes that took to them to opposition in 2016 were not repeated.
Delegates pointed out that the NDC’s loss of the Greater Accra region to the NPP was not the fault of the Chairman as the party lost in virtually every region.
Mr Philip Yankey, Tema East Executive member praised the incumbent Chairman saying “I’m happy that a female delegate acknowledged that Ade Coker was a successful businessman before he became Regional Chairman.
“Under him, NDC maintained many seats in Greater Accra, unlike in Central, Brong Ahafo and other regions where the party lost many seats. Ade is the best for Greater Accra. Which regional Chairman of NDC wakes up very early every morning to promote the interest of the party on radio and TV like Ade Coker?”
He said Ade would win again as his experience would be indispensable in 2020.
Mr Joe Kwei, a leading member of the NDC in Tema West described Chairman Ade Coker as a gift from God to help the party in the regional chair.
“Apart from his pedigree, he is affable and cuts across political lines, I will urge those in the chairmanship race to withdraw and rally behind Chairman Ade Coker in order to avoid a humiliating defeat on Election Day”.
