There will be tertiary education scholarship in my govt for PWDs – Bawumia promises

The Vice President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised to make tertiary education free for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) if he wins the pending December 7, 2024, presidential election.

He clarified that although scholarships would be available for every Ghanaian who needs them, special funds would be set aside for his 'free tertiary education' initiative for PWDs, myjoyonline.com reports.

The NPP flagbearer added that the 'free tertiary education' for PWDs would cover both tuition and accommodation for the beneficiary students, starting from 2025.

"I am very clear on the way forward. I believe that for Persons with Disabilities, we are going to support them a bit more. We are giving scholarships to every person, but I am going to dedicate some of the monies to our Scholarship Secretariat and the GETFund to provide free tertiary education; both tuition and accommodation, to every person with a disability who makes it into the university so they can all benefit," he stated.

The vice president is reported to have made this promise at a meeting with religious leaders in the Western North Region as part of his ongoing nationwide tour.
