Angry New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti region have vowed to impeach their chairman Isaac Brenya, claiming he has shown signs of working against the Presidential ambitions of the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo.
The ‘under pressure’ Chairman in an interview on TV3 on Thursday, is alleged to have called on the 2016 flagbearer to step down if the party has succeeded in ousting the national chairman, Paul Afoko.
His comment angered the supporters of the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, who massed up in front of the Chairman Brenya’s constituency office. The party supporters vacated the premise after the wait proved fruitless.
They left leaving bold red inscription written all over the office: “Asawase is not for Afoko, Chairman Brenya must ago”. They vowed to return Friday, which they did, resulting in a clash between pro-Afoko and Nana supporters and, Freddy Blay.
Speaking to Kasapa News, Yusif Iddris, a polling station Chairman accused Chairman Brenya of conspiring with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area, Mohammed Muntaka, to scuttle the electoral dreams of Nana Akufo-Addo in next year’s general elections.
“We’ll impeach him, if he is not ready to work with Nana Akufo-Addo for victory in 2016, then he has no business staying in office. I can tell you that as at now, more than 60% of the delegates are ready to remove him from office, and we’ll certainly ensure that he leaves. We don’t need to entertain anyone who wants to rock the boat for our victory in 2016.”
Meanwhile, a member of the party in the Constituency was on Friday stabbed to death.
Abubakar Saddiq was part of the angry Akufo-Addo loyalists who locked up the Asawasi Constituency office on Thursday in protest over comments made by the Chairman of the Constituency.
