Agona Akrabong (C/R), Aug 6, GNA - Mr. John Kwesi Agyabeng, Agona District Chief Executive, has called on Ghanaians to reject coup d'etats and people with that record since they do not have the panacea for the country's economy.
He said people who overthrew governments by force could not change the fortune of the nation but only amassed wealth at the expense of the poor.
Mr. Agyabeng was speaking at Agona Akrabong as part of a tour of communities in the district to acquaint himself with the problems of the people and to explain government policies and programmes.
Accompanied by Mr. Enoch Duodu, Agona East Constituency Secretary of the NPP and officials of the District Assembly, he urged the people to protect the peace and stability that the nation was enjoying.
He thanked the people for voting for President J. A. Kufour and the NPP in the 2000 elections and asked them to continue supporting the government to enable the party to fulfill its campaign promises.
The DCE called on the people to support Presidential Special Initiative (PSI) on Cassava to create jobs and wealth for the nation and asked them to ignore opposition campaign to "politicize" the Industrial Starch Project.
He assured the people that the NPP under the Leadership of President Kufuor would turn the fortunes of the country round. The DCE said the Assembly would construct schools and provide boreholes and hand-dug wells to improve the standard of living. A three-classroom block would be constructed with money from the HIPC Fund to replace the dilapidated structure.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Akromah, Mr. Agyabeng said the Assembly would provide a three-classroom block for the primary school to re-place the hut roofed with palm branches.
Mr. Mohammed Nutogo, Assemblyman for the area on behalf of the Chiefs and people appealed to the Assembly for the provision of potable water and roofing sheets to complete projects to raise living conditions.
The DCE and his entourage also visited Asubo and Kojo Esoun.
