Barima Offeh Akwasi Okogyeasuo, the Omanhene of Kokofu in the Ashanti Region has appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to, as a matter of urgency, fix the bridge which spans over River Biakwa.

His appeal comes on the heels of the collapse of the bridge that links Kokofu (in the Bekwai Municipality) to Aputuogya (in the Bosomtwe District) from recent downpours.

The Kokofumanhene, making the appeal through The Chronicle, in the presence of Baffour Kyei, Municipal Chief Executive of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly did not understand why the bridge under a newly constructed road could collapse.

Barima Offe Akwasi Okogyeasuo suggested that the Minister for Roads and Highways should arrange and engage competent engineers and contractors to execute road construction to avoid recurrence of a disgraceful and embarrassing situation, where a bridge could collapse immediately after the completion of works on a newly constructed and sealed road.

Barima Kokofumanhene expressed worry for the inconveniences caused to the people and school children within the communities along the route and regretted that the bridge had collapsed after the said road was reported to have been completed.

The MCE for Bekwai indicated that he and his counterpart at Kuntanase (Bosomtwe District Assembly) had prepared and submitted a report for the necessary attention of the government.

Barima Offeh Akwasi Okogyeasuo also demanded that the contractor working on the Kokofu-Tapaso Road should be directed to do the right thing in the execution of the project.

He condemned the construction of a culvert by the contractor which passes through a Poultry Farm, causing water to be collected and thereby threatening the collapse of the walls if the situation persisted.

The chief said, ignoring counsel regarding this project could attract judgment debt at the expense of the taxpayer since there seems to be improper inspection and supervision on the part of the contractor.

The Paramount Chief also appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to consider re-sealing potholes on Kokofu Town Roads, especially the Kokofu to Oppong Memorial SHS stretch, to give Kokofu a befitting status as the birthplace of the founder of the Asante State.
