Master plan for a modern Kinbu Sectech to be outdoored soon - Mayor Sowah

Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has disclosed plans to develop the Kinbu Senior High Technical School to befit the status of a modern technical training school in the city.

According to him the Assembly is working closely with the Metro Director of Education and the Headmistress of the school to present a master plan that would establish guidelines to improve the physical condition of the school and create an atmosphere of learning that would endure for decades to come.

Mohammed Adjei Sowah said this on Friday at the launch of 145th anniversary of the founding of Kinbu Senior High Technical School in Accra under the theme “The Kinbu Story”.

“This is the only and proper technical school in the city and if not maintained and protected will lose its status and produce more students who would venture into humanities at the tertiary level," he said.

He pointed out that the President, H.E Nana Addo is very much interested in technical and vocational education hence his belief in the German model of Technical Education and urged all assemblies to actively support vocational and technical schools in their jurisdiction.

He observed that government is developing infrastructure in the various schools and had awarded contracts for additional facilities in many senior high schools including Kinbu Senior High to take care of the increasing enrollment due to the implementation of the free SHS.

He also noted that to reciprocate the gesture by authorities of Kinbu SecondaryTechnical school, to give out their land to construct a city hall, the Assembly during the construction decided to maintain its frontage as the kinbu Gardens to serve as a leisure Garden for the people of Accra.

The AMA boss also assured that his outfit in collaboration with the korle klottey Municipal Assembly would soon evacuate all squatters who have taken over the school's land.

The Headmistress of the school, Madam Gloria Adukonu, in a remark stressed the need for more infrastructural development in the school to accommodate the growing population adding that the school’s population had grown from 160 to 1990, increasing pressure on facilities.

Madam Catherine Appiah-Pinkrah , Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education , in a speech read on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum , said Government is committed in ensuring that every child gets access to free quality education from Kindergarten to the Senior High School.

“Government is poised to ensure that teachers are given the necessary tools, motivation and supervision to enhance quality teaching and learning,” he said.

She thanked both past and current leaders of the school for their hard work in ensuring the existence of the school and producing prominent people in the country.

“The theme for the 145th anniversary is “The Kinbu Story” is appropriate and worth celebrating because the Kinbu Senior High Technical School has produced many great statesmen and women in academia, politics and other spheres of life,” she said.

The launch ended with the unveiling of the 145th Anniversary cloth and the 6th speech and Prize giving Day scheduled for 15th of November 2019.

Other activities lined up for the Anniversary includes a Mentorship Program for the students by Kinbu Old Students Association (KOSA) ,a Home Coming on the 25th of October, a float through some principal streets of Accra on the 8th of October and a Grand Durbar on the 15th of November 2019.
