Some cultures in Ghana, including that of the Ga people, believe in reincarnation, also known as rebirth or transmigration, a religious or philosophical belief that one's spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human or animal.

Nuumo Gbelenfo, the Wulomo (priest) of Osu Gua, is one of the people believed to have been reincarnated.

Speaking in an interview with Ablade TV Online, Nuumo Gbelenfo narrated the circumstances surrounding his birth and his life afterwards.

The priest said that he was in his mother's womb for more than a year.

He added that a priestess advised his mother and grandmother to go to his father's house at Osu for rituals in order for him to be birthed.

During the ritual at Osu, one of the priests said, "Adomkpa, you have disturbed me, you have brought back this old man," he narrated.

Nuumo Gbelenfo said that just some days after the ritual, his mother went into labour and gave birth to him amid lightning and thunderstorms.

"It was on June 14; it was raining heavily, my mother was going through a lot. But before midday, the old man had arrived (he was born). When the old man arrived, my mother was in shock, she thought she had given birth to an animal.

"She called one of the nurses and asked whether she had given birth to a human being or an animal. And the nurse told her that she gave birth to a human being whose cry was different from any other cry of children she had heard," he narrated.

He further narrated that all the women who went into labour with his mother lost their children.

"All the women who were delivering at that time as my mother lost their children, I was the only one who survived," he said.

The priest also said that to date, he does not visit some places because "anytime I pass through such places, people start crying."

He said that he was brought back to the world to complete his mission.

"Myself and Nii Akwei Okeklemeku, the family head, have gone and come back again. We are not done with our work. There are places that I recognise even though it is the first time I am visiting there," he added.
