The chiefs of Ewoyaa and surrounding communities in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region are urging the government and parliament to approve the license for Atlantic Lithium Company to begin operations.

They warn that failure to do so will result in them voting against the current government in the upcoming December General Elections.

In an interview with Kasapa News’ Yaw Boagyan, Chief of Ewoyaa Nana Mbronu Edu IX expressed disappointment in the government and parliamentarians for delaying the license approval.

He highlighted the company’s contributions to local development projects despite not being fully operational yet.

The chief issued an ultimatum to the government and parliamentarians to grant the license by November, or the community would reclaim their land for farming.

He criticised the ongoing debate over the community’s share of the profits, arguing that negotiation should take place promptly.

The Chief emphasised the community’s independence in building infrastructure and expressed frustration at the government’s neglect.

He also noted that the company’s presence has led to employment for 80 percent of the local youth.

The chiefs indicated that their communities and their youth stand to benefit significantly from the lithium deal and warned of potential protests and a massive vote against the current parliamentarians if the license is not granted.

Other chiefs in the lithium mining communities echoed these sentiments, praising the company’s role in local development and warning of election boycotts if the license is not approved. Workers also appealed to the government, stressing that failure to grant the license would lead to unemployment.
