The Board of Directors of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) has appointed Mr John Ulanga as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with effect from August 7, 2023.
Mr Ulanga is replacing Mr. Raphael Maganga, who had been acting in the role, according to a statement issued by TPSF Board Chairperson, Ms Angelina Ngalula.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Ulanga was Regional Director for TradeMark East Africa (TMEA), currently known as TradeMark Africa (TMA) an organization dedicated to supporting trade growth across East Africa.
He also held the position of Vice President, External Affairs and Sustainability for BG Group, a prominent player in oil and gas exploration in the region.
Currently, Mr Ulanga is the Chairman of the Board of Serengeti Breweries Limited; KCB Bank Tanzania Limited and the Chairman of the University Council of the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, Dar es Salaam.
Also, he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tanzania Financial Services for the Underserved Settlements (TAFSUS), an initiative to upgrade slums and underserved settlements in Tanzania.
He is also a board member of Mwananchi Communications Limited (publishers of The Citizen, Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti newspapers).
Mr. Ulanga holds a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting from the University of Dar es Salaam, an Executive Master in Development Policies and Practices from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA Tanzania).
He is also a Certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner and a Certified Compliance Professional.
Speaking on the appointment Ms Ngalula said they hope that he will continue to contribute towards the growth of the private sector, enhance employment, and enhance sources of national revenue

For his part Mr Ulanga said; “as I come on board, I look forward to utilizing my expertise and experience in engaging with the private sector to further grow this institution and foster our position as an umbrella for the private sector, eager to promote private sector development and the ease of doing business in Tanzania.”
