Dormaa distillers build 44m-cedi block

Dormaa-Ahenkro (Brong Ahafo) 26 Nov. '98 A 44 million-cedi administration block for the Dormaa District Co-operative Distillers and Retailers Union has been commissioned at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

The commissioning coincided with the 14th annual general meeting (AGM) of the union.

Nana Baffour Twum, presiding member of Dormaa District Assembly, commended the initiative of the union and called on the members to diversify their activities and invest in bee-keeping and the production of sugar-cane.

He said the district assembly would support the activities and programmes of the union to enable it to grow from strength to strength.

Mr Antwi Nuako, district secretary, said the union made a net profit of 10 million cedis in its operations in 1997, as against 14 million cedis in 1996.

He appealed to the Dormaa district assembly to give the union support from its share of the common fund to enable them to expand their businesses.

Mr J. Asamoah-Twene, acting Brong Ahafo central secretary of the union, said the annual congress of the Ghana Co-operative Distillers and Retailers Association would be held at Sunyani from December 15 to December 18.

Mr Kwadwo Baffoe, Kintampo district president of the union, urged them to adopt effective strategies to improve their performances.
