Lady joins power lifters for WABBA contest

Female powerlifter, Ruth Jessie was the toast of fans as she lighted their evening with a sparkling performance in the 160kg female powerlifting community auditions on Saturday at Down Town City Restaurant, at Atadeka, a suburb of Ashaiman in Accra.

Ruth, being guarded by her coach, beat two other female contenders who were no match for her at all at the first edition of World Amature Bodybuilding Association Ghana chapter community audition.

Judging from her performance, Ruth has made it to the next round of the audition to be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, in Tema.

She said in an interview that though she is doing the sport for fun she is much happy that she emerged winner of the night.

According to her, she is doing that to keep herself fit and also to stay in good shape and has no plans of competing for Ghana on the international level.

“My coach motivates me a lot and that is where I take my inspiration from. I will go to Tema on Saturday, March 17, 2018, and win,” she said.

The event saw hundreds of people gathered to witness a diverse range of thrilling and fascinating contests between prospective talents. Eleven athletes qualified for the next round of the selection process which is the district and regional championships.

Mr. Victor Baiden, who is the president of the association, was delighted about the success of the tournament which saw huge numbers of athletes turning out.

“A massive crowd turned up for the event and that everything went really well. The athletes were fantastic in their respective endeavors on stage. Even though they were all novices they all demonstrated remarkable potential,” he said.
