Getting access to information in Ghana is almost impossible – Author

The author of ‘Historical Overview of Ghana’s Mining Sector Fiscal Regimes’ Benjamin Aryee, a former Mineral Commission CEO has said that getting access to information in Ghana is almost impossible

According to the Former Minerals Commission CEO, he had a very sad experience when he visited the National archive library to search for information and it was almost impossible getting access to the information he needed.

“ I went to the National Archives Library to look for a specific information on Ghana’s mining sector pre-colonial days after my struggle to get access to the particular file I was looking for, the information I needed in the file had been cut off” he said

Mr. Aryee added that the era of passing on information to the next generation orally was far gone and as a nation, we need to start documenting and archiving events.

“It was almost impossible to get information on Ghana’s mining sector pre-colonial days, we do not archive information and we need to push for the right to information bill”

He said, the necessity to documents events, experience and regimes pushed him to document the “ a historical overview of Ghana’s mining sector fiscal regimes” in other to serve as a reference to generations yet unborn

The book was launched in Accra on Thursday, December 13th with the first copy sold at GHC10,000.
