Ghana’s leading telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana consistently shows superior quality as it continues to excel in the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) Quality of Service drive tests.
In the latest Quality of Service drive tests conducted by the NCA from 26th January to 29th February 2016 in the Greater Accra region, MTN Ghana exceled in all the parameters measured.
The Quality of Services monitoring is conducted by the NCA to ensure that telecom operators comply with obligations set out in their licenses. Five indicators were used in the monitoring exercise.
The indicators for the monitoring are; Stand-alone Dedicated Control Channel (SDCCH) Congestion Rate, Traffic Channel Congestion Rate, Call Setup Time (CST), Call Drop Rate (CDR) and Call Completion Rate (CCR). NCA license thresholds for voice calls require that 95 per cent of all calls would connect in less than ten seconds. MTN excelled in this category as well as the other categories. The speech quality of the MTN Network was rated “Good”.
The NCA in its report indicated that MTN’s 2G and 3G coverage in Accra Metropolis, Tema Municipal, Prampram and Kpone Districts after tests were conducted are Good.
Speaking on the NCA’s Quality of Service monitoring results, the Chief Technical Officer of MTN Ghana, Mohammed Rufai said, “NCA’s positive report continues to confirm MTN’s commitment towards network infrastructural development and our vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world. We are glad the investments are showing in the services we provide, making it possible for our customers to enjoy a great customer experience.”
“It also confirms the robustness of our network and the distinct services MTN will offer customers when we fully launch 4G LTE in June 2016”, Mr Rufai added.
MTN Ghana has since 2006-2015 invested about US$2.512 billion its network and infrastructure to ensure a solid and robust network. MTN’s plans to invest a total of $96million in Network and IT investments 2016. Out of this $18 million is being invested in 4G LTE infrastructural development.
In December 2015, MTN was awarded the 4G LTE 800MHz license by the NCA. Since the award of the license, over 150 4G LTE sites have so far been deployed and currently being tested in the country.
