The 'can of worms' at Cocobod will soon be opened by unionized workers if the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Stephen Opuni remains adamant on meddling in the affairs of the union.
Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) and General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) have accused the CEO of finding ways to dissolve the Cocobod branch of the workers union.
Speaking to Kwame Tutu on frontline on Rainbow Radio, General Secretary of ICU Solomon Kotei said, the CEO Dr. Opuni is frustrating workers at Cocobod and he is bent on breaking the labour front to have his way.
He also alleged that, Dr. Opuni Frimpong is currently working together with one other person, Harisson Idris Hassan a former employee of Cocobod and past chairman of Cocobod Head Office Local Union and Supreme Consultative Council of the cocoa industry, to register workers unto an unregistered union which some workers have refused.
Mr. Solomon Kotei said they have notified the Labour Minister but the CEO do not honour the meeting anytime they are called.
He said, he finds it strange for the CEO to engage the services of the retired officer to be representing the workers when he has no capacity to do so due to his retirement.
He added they have notified Cocobod to organise an election to elect new officers to represent the union at the institution, however, the CEO Dr. Stephen Opuni has failed to pave way for that because he do want to allow that.
