Ghanaians have the same character trait that says "show me". Our current system has been a failure for 2 or 3 generations. The only time Ghabaians have known fear is when people who have abused revenues have faced execution; it's unfortunately the sad truth.
Year in and year out we have seen the Auditor General produce reports and seen Public Accounts Committe sit abd make all kinds of noise by the same NPP and NDC parties playing musical chairs for the majority party in parliament si they can provide legal defense for corruption, abuse, mismanagement and abject thievery that comes with being the party that gets to run each government entity.
In the first place, can anyone with love for Ghana explain why people buy or spend more than their budget allocation without going to jail?

Long long overdue. Parliament should also have a look at our import duties for vehicles. There are some ridiculous things are being collected at our ports that one will wonder why government of Ghana has decided to extort from us. I was most surprised vat collected at the port is always more than the imports duty itself. How can the tax be that the actual thing being vat. Covid tax?? Will the government soon add Iran and Ukraine war Levy???

Very well said. Add that the punitive tax regime is not only killing businesses, it has become a weapon that GRA staff use to enrich themselves. How does it work? They use the law toconjure up tax liabilities and astronomically hike up tax obligations using the interest and penalties provisions. They then call on the poor trapped business owner to come negotiate with them. If you agree to negotiate, they tell you they will split the artificial tax figure they have imposed on you into three parts - you pay 1/3 to them in cash (no paper trails), then you pay the second 1/3 to government, and the last third "is yours", they'll say. In sum, the higher they can inflate the co jured tax burden, the higher the amount they get from you.
Mind you, they are not shy about it; they will tell you "that's what we usually do." It's a shameless and bold exploitation of the law to personal advantage.

In western nations when you are owning institutions they will have meetings with you and ask you how much can you pay in month because they know that there should be some problems so they will not force you use. 3,4,6 months you know how much you can pay but they will make sure if it is 100years you pay
