Accra, Aug. 6 GNA - After five months of non-residential intensive camping, the National Cricket team is now set to participate in the Africa Under-17 Cricket Youth Championship slated for Nairobi Kenya between August 17th to September 4th.
Four officials and 14 players would represent Ghana at the event, which has over 30 African Countries expected to participate. Joshua Mensah, General Secretary of the Association who briefed the North-West blocks of which Ghana is the leading champions.
"It's the first time we're participating at the Continental Cup, therefore it's a big challenge, but its an opportunity for the North-Western African Champions to show what we can do best", he said. "He added that the purpose of the tournament is to find the overall best Cricket team in Africa.
The event was supposed to have taken off in March was postponed to August and as such the team which was dissolved had top embark on the non-residential camping," he stated.
Mr Mensah appealed to the Passport Office to expedite action on the processing and provision of passport to seven of the players, which he said is still pending while calling on the Ghanaian sporting public to rally their support behind the team.
