Mawuli Primary School in Ho on Saturday won gold to emerge winners of the first ever inter-schools cricket tournament in the Volta Region.
The school beat St George's Anglican Primary to win in the two-day event organised by the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA).
Ho Kpodzi Evangelical Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS) won the JHS category with Mawuli Senior High School (SHS) winning the SHS competition.
The competition, held for both males and females in all the categories was to introduce the game to students.
Mr Henry Ackom, Operations Officer, GCA described the tournament as highly successful.
"The response is great and the performances, superb. It was highly successful," he stated.
Mr Ackom said the initiative was to provide an alternative for students to engage positively.
He said reports indicated that the game is taking children off the streets.
Mr Victor Tetteh, Regional Secretary, Cricket Association commended GCA for the foresight and support and called for support from corporate institutions to develop the game in the region.
Ghana is said to be among the best six cricket teams in Africa.
