Asanteman union in Italy assists two institutions

Kumasi, July 8, GNA - The Asanteman Union of Italy on Friday donated 151 brand new hospital mattresses valued at 90 million cedis to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The Union had already donated clothing worth 20 million cedis to the Kumasi Children's home at a separate ceremony.

Presenting the mattresses to the hospital, Mr. Kofi Nyarko, representative of the union, said the donations were part of its programme to assist recognized institutions in the region to deliver better services to the people and the vulnerable. He said members of the union had made a firm commitment toward the progress of the region and thanked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, for his assistance in ensuring the smooth shipment and clearance of the goods at the port.

The Akyempimhene, Nana Adusei Poku, who received the items on behalf of the institutions, commended members of the association for the gesture. He said KATH was currently embarking on massive infrastructural development and rehabilitation of old structures and there was the need for all Asantes both home and abroad to organize themselves and contribute their quota towards the implementation of the projects Dr P.E Karikari Medical Director of the hospital and Madam Margaret Boafo Atiemo, Director of Nursing Service, received the items on behalf of the hospital.
