GaDangme Europe to meet in Barcelona

The Spanish city Barcelona is the venue of this year’s Annual Conference of GaDangme Europe (GDEu) - an Association of natives from the Greater Accra Region (Ghana) living in various countries in Europe.

The big day event on Friday , October 14, which is the 7th Conference of the GDEu will be hosted at Calle Industral Hall in Canovelles. The theme for this year’s Conference is: ‘A Time to Transform the Challenges of Facing GaDangme into Reality’ and delegates are expected to arrive from France, Germany, Italy, UK, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Switszerland among others. Also attending are representatives of ‘Bokemei’ Foundation (an NGO from Holland and member of GDEU). It’s also expected the Representative Council (RC) made up of two members of each Association or Foundation that forms the GDEU will be present. Obonu FM at Tema will cover the event (from 5p.m) to be transmitted LIVE in Ghana.

The meeting will be chaired by Emmanuel Nii Okoso Tetteh Mensah (President) who will be flanked at the table by Sarah Naa Adoley Coleman (Vice President), Daniel Lamptey (Secretary), Isaac Nii Kotey Robertson (Vice Secretary), Alex Adjei (PRO), Bob Lamptey (Financial Secretary) and Florence Lamptey (Treasurer) – all Executive Board members. Delegates will have an open forum where discussion will also fall on the GDEu Constitution - resolution for amendments. A statement from the Secretariate of the GDEu says the Conference will provide opportunities for GaDangme natives in Europe to reaffirm their support to developing issues and also set direction for the coming years. It further added it will also be a chance for the natives of GaDangme in Europe to get acquainted and to devise ways to tackle many of the challenges facing its people. Delegates will have the full ‘flavour’ of the Spanish beautiful city as the GaDangme Association in Spain walks into an event of inaugurating their Association the following day (Saturday Oct. 15) at the auditorium of Calle Sant Felix S/N, Canovelles.

A packed programme is on the card and participants will have the previledge of seeing the culture of the GaDangme people being unfolded in spectacular fashion with traditional music and dance. Among the special guests being invited is the Ghana Ambassador to Spain, His Excellency Fedelis W. Yaw Ekar. Also to be present are representatives from GaDangme International in the US, Ghana Union in Spain and other local Ghanaian Associations based in Spain. A ‘Kpaalogo’ Group from Zaragoza and ‘Dipo’ Dancers will entertain the audience whilst musical artistes, among them, Nii Mantse (King Solomon), Nii Armah Gomez and former celebrated star of ‘Wolomei’ fame, Naa Amanuah, will further light the evening expected to last long into the early hours of the following morning.
