Ghana’s poetry is getting the needed recognition too, thanks to budding poet, Poetra Asantewa.
The US Embassy, Ghana has announced poet, singer and spoken word artist – Poetra Asantewa (Ama Asantewa Diaka) as 2016 ‘OneBeat’ Fellow.
For the past 5 years, Poetra Asantewa has committed her art to investigate, view and observe certain subjects relevant to the Ghanaian community; from feminism, to education standards, to mental health awareness/depression.
She is also an entrepreneur and founder of Alikoto Clothing and Yobbings. When she’s not on stage or creating, she work with an NGO Love Rocks, whose main aim is to help young students to learn outside of the box.
Poetra Asantewa will join 24 other OneBeat Fellows from around the world in the U.S. for one month to collaboratively write, produce, and perform original music, and develop strategies for arts-based social engagement.
