Sarkodie was crowned the African Legend Artiste of the year at this year's African Legends Awards which took place in Lagos, Nigeria at the BESPOKE Event Centre on Sunday, November 27.

The RNS hitmaker won the award after beating off stiff opposition from compatriots Daddy Lumba and Amandzeba and AKA (South Africa), D’Banj (Nigeria), K’naan (Somalia), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Asa (Nigeria).

The artiste who has had a very fruitful career this year could not hide his joy at the feat he had achieved and shared the plaque on social media with his fans with the caption "Thank you #AELA2016 for the African Legend Artiste of The Year".

Sarkodie was however nominated for two categories including the African Best Rap Artist category and the African Legend Artistes of the year.

The event which was hosted by Bryan Okwara and Ella Mensa saw Olu Jacobs and Joke Sylva honoured for their contributions to the industry and was themed 'The Chronicle'.

Other Ghanaian artistes who were nominated for various categories include Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Kofi Kinata, EL and Joe Mettle.

The event was sponsored by Flexy Entertainment with support from Smile Global Entertainment, Ariiya Tickets and Kingsville and was dedicated to achievements in African entertainment.
