Ghana added gold in the Handball discipline to their medal haul at the ongoing Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games after beating Benin 29-28 in an epic final on Thursday.
The men made amends for their female counterparts, who lost to Cote d’Ivoire 24-hours earlier in the final. The result also served a perfect revenge for the Black Hands who were outplayed by their Beninois counterparts during the recent Zone Three (3) Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) Championship held in Accra.
Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, the Ghanaians started on a high note and led by a two-point margin at half time; 14-12.
The Black Hands maintained their consistency against the resilient Beninois, who were targeting the gold medal to boost their medal haul.
In the end, Ghana won by the narrowest of margins, 29-28 to claim gold leaving the Beninois with no option other than silver.
In the third place match, Togo beat Cote d’Ivoire 31-24 to snatch bronze.**
