Legal luminary and statesman, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prosecute officials of the Lands Commission when he assumes office.
According to him, the officials of the Lands Commission are the main people behind what he described as the looting and capturing of state's lands and properties.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Onua TV on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Ansa-Asare accused officials of the Lands Commission of being corrupt and illegally selling lands belonging to people.
“Nana Addo alone cannot be blamed for some of the bad things happening in the country. I’m going to single out one agency, which is the Lands Commission, and I’m going to mention names.
“As the new president is coming, the people Nana Addo appointed to the Lands Commission, including the National Chairman, who is a lawyer at President Akufo-Addo's chambers, Alex Quaynor; Executive Secretary Arthur; Greater Accra Regional Chairperson, Surveyor Odanu Sowa; they should all be arrested. The BNI should arrest all of them,” he said in Twi.
He added, “... the state capture we have been talking about is from the Lands Commission. I want to let everybody know that persons whose lands were given to the government from the 1950s have been sold. This is why I’m saying they should all be arrested.”
Ansa-Asare, a former Director of the Ghana School of Law, said that he himself has been a victim of the commission.
He said that the commission sold land belonging to his family and all attempts to get it back have proven futile.
“I have complained on several occasions, but because Nana Addo appointed the chairman, nothing has been done. I have even petitioned the minister to interdict them but nothing happened. So I’m pleading with Mahama, if he comes to office, the first thing he should do is to arrest them.”
