National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has mounted a spirited defense for his longtime friend, Bright Ernest Akomeah alias ‘Double’ a mobile phone dealer turned National Security Operative.

He disclosed that Double has no criminal record as members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) want to portray to the public and also has the right to be recruited into the National Security just like any other person, MyNewsGh.com reports

“I have known Double for over 10 years as a good friend. We use to live together in one area Taifa and I moved to another suburb of Accra, he also then moved to the same area coincidentally. He is not known to be somebody who has engaged in any act of lawlessness and I am surprised the NDC they are deliberately trying to tag people”, he revealed in an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com.

Double is said to be one of national security operatives who orchestrated violence at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region during the January 31, 2019 by-election.

Their actions were condemned by most Ghanaians who also raised eyebrows about the composition of the National Security Operatives which has even led to the formation of a Commission of Inquiry to look into the violence.

Mr. Sammi Awuku was also accused of helping to recruit members of party militia especially Double into the security Services though he is not qualified.

But speaking on the issue for the first time since it came up, Mr. Awuku though did not deny knowing Double but said he is more than qualified to work with the National Security and that the fact he is associated with the agency does not mean they can still not be friends.

“When was recruited as a National Security Operative, he distant a bit from me because I have become a politically known person and he was now working with the security agency. But let me also make this point, the fact that somebody is associated or known to me does not mean the person does not have the right to be employed”, he added.
