Only ‘problem’ with Emile Short Commission is the ‘Santa Clausian’ former IGP - ‘APSU’ Kwaku Azar plays ‘mischief’

Respected social media influencer and academic with extensive knowledge in Accounting and Law, Prof Stephen Kwaku Asare has passed a solid vote of confidence in the composition of the Emile Short Commission tasked with investigating the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence.

His only ‘problem’, however, is with former Inspector General of Police Mr Patrick Acheampong who is an old student of Adisadel College in Cape Coast (Santa Clausian). Other than that, Prof Azar says the former IGP is excellent.

With Prof Azar being an old student of St Augustine’s College (APSU) in Cape Coast, the joke was clear as the two schools are age-old traditional rivals in the Central Region.

When it came to Dr Kofi Abotsi who is Dean of the GIMPA Law School and also an APSUNIAN like Prof Kwaku Azar, the learned academic said the training Abotsi had from St Augustines College will play a key role in his delivery.

“Dean Abotsi is hardly a partisan. He calls it as he sees it. Furthermore, he is an APSUNIAN trained to tell it as is.”

There is a strong but healthy ‘rivalry’ among past and present students of Saint Augustine College, Adisadel College and Mfantsipim School all in Cape Coast and it is often for fun.

Allow the Commission work

Prof Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar warned politicians to stay off and allow the ‘credible’ team to work.

“This is a very credible Commission. The politicians should leave the members alone to do their job.” He said.

He commended the present government for forming the commission as in the past similar violence happened and nothing was done about it.

“We have witnessed election violence in this country swept under the rug. For the first time, government has mustered the courage to appoint an independent Commission to investigate matters leading to the violence and precommitted to publishing the findings.” He said.

The Ayawaso WW Commission is credible. The members have solid pedigrees. Commissioner Emile Short served as Commissioner under Rawlings, Kufuor, and Mills. Nobody can credibly impute partisan motives to this honorable man.

IGP Patrick Acheampong was a Special Prosecutor under the PNDC and was Executive Secretary to IGP under the PNDC. He was appointed as IGP by Kuffour. If there is anything against him at all, it is that he is a Santa Clausian.

Professor Mensa Bonsu has been an academic for decades and is universally respected by all sides.

That one too has become a wahala.
