Former Ghana striker Prince Tagoe has criticised the Black Stars' recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, attributing their struggles to a lack of character among the players.

His remarks come as Ghana continues to struggle in their campaign, securing only two points from their first three Group F matches.

The Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for AFCON 2025 took another hit after a goalless draw against Sudan on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The team's poor run, including a loss to Angola and draws against Niger and Sudan, has sparked frustration among fans and football experts.

Speaking to Bryt FM, Tagoe stressed that the players need to replicate the intensity they show at their club level when representing the national team.

“If the players can replicate at least 80% of the performances they exhibit at their various clubs, we will undoubtedly win games. We have good players, but the character they exhibit in approaching Black Stars games is very low, and that has been our biggest problem,” Tagoe remarked.

Ghana will need a significant improvement in their upcoming return leg against Sudan, which will be played in Tripoli, Libya, as they aim to keep their hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 alive.

With mounting pressure, Otto Addo and his team must secure a positive result to remain in contention for the tournament.
