The facilities at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council have been left to deteriorate as they have not been taken care of for eight years.
It is noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government abandoned the project while in office for eight years, leaving the facility to rot away.
The facility occupies a huge acre of land, with the area dried up because of the harmattan, and the flowers withering heavily due to lack of irrigation. Parts of the ceiling from the outside are broken, with the paint on the building peeling off.
The Presidential Lodge was commissioned by former President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2004, yet poor maintenance of the facility for years has left it in a terrible state.
Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrew, expressed worry over the abandonment of the facility for so long by the NPP administration.
"When we were in power, the place was kept clean and green. The place looked like the seat of government, but now the place looks abandoned," he said.
Regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, vowed that the deteriorating state of the facility will be investigated to ascertain the reasons behind the issue and deal with those responsible.
He emphasised that the NPP Ashanti Regional Minister will be questioned on the issue as well.
"We will launch an investigation into this issue. It will interest us to know how the Regional Minister got a residency. Was the government renting for him while this one was rotting away?" he quizzed.
