Former President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the importance of the people in the Builsa South constituency voting massively for him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Dr. Clement Apaak, the current Member of Parliament.

Addressing a gathering in the constituency as part of his tour, he said a vote for the NDC means a vote for better leadership and opportunities.

He stated that the NDC is the only party that, when in power, initiates projects for the current generation and those yet unborn.

The former president highlighted that whenever the NDC is in power, it invests heavily in electrification, particularly in rural areas.

He mentioned that the NDC invests in education, removes schools beneath trees, invests in health infrastructure and roads, builds schools, and ensures that people have access to clean and safe drinking water.

“And it benefits not only you; it benefits your generations yet to come and yet unborn,” he said, while the MP, Dr. Apaak, translated into the local dialect for the residents.

On the other hand, he criticized the NPP for making sweet promises they cannot fulfill, referencing the one village, one dam policy, one district, one factory, one million per constituency per year, and other policies that they have failed to deliver on. He indicated that the party and its candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are still making unreliable promises.

Mahama affirmed that elections have consequences, and if the wrong choice is made, people would have to live with it for the next four years.

He said what young people want today is not phones, for which they would have to pay GH₵1 or GH₵2 every month, but jobs.

He added that even though the NDC is known as a nation-builder because of its track record in infrastructure, the party, after winning power, will not only concentrate on infrastructure but will continue to work on all abandoned roads and other projects in the area.

He also promised to build a tertiary educational institution to offer higher learning for residents.

He acknowledged the potential of Builsa South in food production and pledged to enhance the work of farmers by providing them with the needed support for their activities by establishing a farmers’ service center and bringing in tractors, combined harvesters, planters, ploughs, fertilizers, and other logistics to enhance farming in the area.

On rice farming, he further pledged to establish a rice processing factory in the constituency where the rice farmers will get a minimum guaranteed price for their farm produce without the involvement of middlemen who buy at a low price.

After that, he endorsed the MP and asked constituents to vote massively for him to retain him.

He commended him for his dedication and hard work in parliament, particularly on issues of education and holding the government to account. Mahama’s campaign focuses on grassroots engagement, listening to the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians, and presenting his plans for the country’s development.

The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) flagbearer’s tour is seen as a strategic move to connect with voters in the region and bolster his chances in the upcoming general election.
