Your shameful and irresponsible boycott of Lydia’s swearing-in means nothing - Majority Chief Whip

The Majority Chief whip in parliament, Ameyaw Cheremeh has laughed off claims by the Minority in parliament that they won’t recognize the newly elected Ayawaso West-Wuogon Member of Parliament (MP), Lydia Alhassan Seyram describing it as shameful and irresponsible.

Speaking on 'Pure Morning Drive' with Kwame Adinkra monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Sunyani-East MP explained that, it was not the prerogative of the MP’s to decide on who to accept into the noble house hence the boycotting of her swearing-in meant nothing legally and constitutionally.

He further asked whether they will always be boycotting their constitutional mandate of representing their constituents anytime she comes to parliament, describing the act as shameful and irresponsible on the part of the Minority and will not shake them in any way.

“Their walkout will not change anything either the minority or minority. It is the people within the constituency who voted for her to represent them and they are not in parliament. Constituency elections are also not held in parliament. It is not within the purview of the minority to also determine who becomes a lawmaker for a particular constituency”, he disclosed on the show.

Hon. Ameyaw Cheremeh argued that if violence erupts at by-elections and will invalidate them, the NDC should nullify the by-elections of Akwatia and Chereponi where a seating MP was spotted firing gunshots at unprovoked party supporters.

In his view, that was not the only assignment for the day wondering how long they can keep boycotting parliament because they have issues with the elections of Madam Lydia Alhassan Seyram.
