The Acting President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET-GH), Ing. Wonder S. Davor, has urged graduates of Accra Technical University (ATU) to embrace opportunities presented by government policies, particularly the forthcoming 24-hour economy initiative.

Speaking as a special guest at ATU’s 24th Congregation Ceremony for Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates on March 21, 2025, Ing. Davor encouraged graduates to utilize their acquired skills and take bold steps into the professional world.

“The skills and knowledge you have acquired here are just the foundation. The world beyond the university walls is filled with opportunities and challenges that require continuous learning, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence,” he noted.

He emphasised the importance of forming groups, registering companies, and taking proactive measures to benefit from government policies such as the 24-hour economy initiative when it is implemented.

“I will again encourage you to form groups, register with companies, and take advantage of government-of-the-day policies such as the 24-hour economy when it is rolled out. I will encourage you as much as possible, as graduates, to take the challenge and make yourselves available so that whatever comes out of it, you will benefit.”

The congregation ceremony saw the graduation of 3,465 students, representing 80.26% of the 4,317 enrolled in the HND program.

Despite an encouraging first-class rate of 9.01%, the institution acknowledged the need for targeted academic interventions, as 19.74% (852 students) were unable to graduate.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, highlighted the university’s recent achievements, including the accreditation of 12 new Master of Technology programs and 25 Bachelor of Technology programs.

He announced the admission of 12,026 students for the academic year, signaling significant growth in the institution’s capacity.

“I am happy that over the past years, our institution has been able to obtain accreditation for 12 new Master of Technology programs, which are now running, and 25 new Bachelor of Technology programs.

“We were able to recruit 12,026 students admitted for this academic year,” Professor Acakpovi stated.

Apedo Lucky, the valedictorian of the 24th Congregation Ceremony, urged fellow graduates to maintain the spirit of curiosity and determination.

“As we move forward, let us carry on the spirit of curiosity and determination that has brought us this far. The future awaits our contribution, and I am very confident that each of us will make a meaningful impact in our unique ways,” he said.

Professor Mahama Duwiejua served as the chairman of the ceremony.
