The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated emphatically that the controversial e-levy on mobile transactions will be scrapped in his first budget to Parliament as President by March 2025.

Interacting with the media in Accra on Sunday, August 25, 2024, Dr. Bawumia also stated that his major tax reform program, including his tax amnesty and flat tax rate proposals, will be implemented in the first three months of his administration.

Explaining why he will swiftly scrap the e-levy and implement the tax reforms, Dr. Bawumia noted that it is to immediately provide the needed environment for businesses to thrive and create more jobs for the youth, as he seeks to transform Ghana with digitalization as a cornerstone.

"The e-levy will have to go by March as we present our first budget because of our focus on digitalization as we take off," Dr. Bawumia said.

"The new tax reforms, the flat rate regime, and the tax amnesty will also come in immediately because of our focus on supporting businesses to grow."

"These are things that I have spoken about which we need to do to create the enabling environment for businesses to create jobs for the youth of the country."

The NPP flagbearer added that one of his key and immediate priorities will be to move towards creating jobs for the youth, and right from the early days of his administration, he will take bold decisions that will greatly impact that.
