The Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has been captured in a video promising to offer financial assistance to a man believed to be a native of the constituency on condition that he switches his party allegiance.
According to a post shared by EDHUB on X, on August 26, 2024, the man, spotted in an NDC T-shirt, approached the MP for financial assistance.
The post further indicated that Vincent Assafuah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed his preparedness to help the man but on the condition that he pledged allegiance to the NPP.
As the video showed, the man could be seen shaking hands with the MP, while telling him, “I don’t have money.”
In response, the Member of Parliament said, "You raised me when I was a kid. You were a member of the NPP, so what happened? Is it because of the small money you will get to feed yourself?
"No, I will take care of you myself. You have to come home when we close so that we can give you an NPP T-shirt to wear.”
At this point, the man could be seen trying to lift his shirt, to which the MP asked, “Are you wearing an NPP T-shirt beneath?.”
The man responded, "They didn’t give me.”
With a further assurance to help the man, Vincent Assafuah urged him to take off the NDC T-shirt.
After this, a gentleman wearing an NPP T-shirt joined the MP and gave him his T-shirt, symbolically baptising the man back into the NPP.
