The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Ken Yeboah, has revealed that the youth who were arrested for their involvement in the clashes between some Zongo youth and Asante youth at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, will be arraigned today Tuesday March 20.

On Monday March 19, one person was killed in the renewed clashes in the area.

The deceased, whose name was only given as Musah, 24; died Monday, 19 March 2018 in the course of the melee, assembly member for Ahwiaa, Mr Brenya K. Vasco told Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah.

The bloody clashes in Ahwiaa began last month with the factions attacking each other with machetes, broken bottles and other weapons after the townsfolk had prevented the Zongo youth from participating in the burial and funeral rites of a deceased lady.

Speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday March 20, DCOP Yeboah indicated some arrests have been made following the incident.

“We have arrested some of the youth who orchestrated the mayhem and we are processing them before court today.”

“We want to assure that the Police will deal with any miscreant who foments trouble in the area and other parts of the region.”
